Saturday, March 14, 2015 was the annual Smorgasbord held at the Community Center in Cairo. Over 650 friends and neighbors were in attendance for the dinner featuring custom-made specialties of roast beef, ham, au gratin potatoes, various salads, and trimmings.
The night featured a leisurely atmosphere where many seemed to have an extra cup of coffee and ‘visit the night away.’
The annual event is the major fund-raiser for the Department. The funds go to the purchase and upkeep of materials and supplies in the effort to be of service for emergencies in the fire district. The Cairo district enjoys a very good relationship with all the residents and that good will was demonstrated at the dinner.
In addition to the meal, seven of the Volunteer Firefighters were recognized for their devotion and service. They are as follows: Chief Steve Oseka, 30 years; Joe Grabowski, 30 years; Rich Svitak (ret.) 21 years; Randy Wetzel (ret.) 15 years; Brian Wetzel (ret.) 3 years; Paul Hoos (ret.) 3 years; and Anson Dockhorn (ret.) 3 years. These gentlemen have provided valuable service over the years and they’ve done themselves proud. We salute you!
The Cairo Rural VFD wishes to say “Thank You” to the many friends and neighbors who have supported us. And, we welcome the continuation of our mutual good will.
