Rick and Jan Leth recognized a problem and sought a solution. They wanted a playground within walking distance for the children and the visiting grandchildren of the residents that live in the housing developments north of the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks. They just did not believe it was safe for families to walk to the two current village parks considering they would cross to high trafficked highways and a set of railroad tracks. There are approximately 36 young children living in the housing developments located north of the railroad tracks. The number of children living in the developments north of the tracks will continue to climb as the area becomes more developed.
Rick and Jan met with Mayor Bill Heger and Centura Hills resident Jeremy Jelinek to seek a solution to the problem, a committee was formed. The committee requested estimates from several playground equipment distributors, secured a location for the playground in Centura Hills, and created a volunteer base to assemble the playground equipment.
The committee is asking for community support to fund this project. If you would like to contribute to the playground project, you can leave your donation at the Cairo Village office or in any of the collection buckets located at Pathway Bank; Pump n Pantry or the Watering Hole. You can contact Rick Leth at 379-9353 or Jeremy Jelinek at 380-8003 with any questions about the project.
