The Village of Cairo hosted its first Progressive Agriculture Safety Day on July 30th, 2015. Ninety-four students and over thirty volunteers attended this event.
Topics demonstrated this year included Power Take Off Safety, Blind Spot Safety, Animal Safety, Bicycle Safety, Water Safety, Hand Washing, Mosquito Safety, Vehicle Roll Over Safety, and Power Line Safety. Each registered child in attendance received a free t-shirt provided by Progressive Agriculture Foundation, a bicycle helmet from CHI Health-St. Francis, and a goodie bag from our sponsors.
Businesses including Titan Machinery, Green Line, Nebraska State Patrol, Hall County Sheriff, Central Nebraska Health District, CHI Health-St. Francis, and Schultz Show Cattle volunteered equipment and employees as educators. Special thanks to our presenters Alex Stocker and Tonya Anderson for volunteering to educate students as well.
Local Sponsors including Village of Cairo, Cairo Community Foundation, Pathway Bank, Farm Credit Services of America, Syngenta, and BASF provided financial support and man power for this event.
The feedback from sponsors, volunteers, students, and parents has been very positive. Co-coordinators Charity Adams and Tara Janda have already started to make plans for next year. The Village of Cairo plans to make Progressive Agriculture Safety Day an annual event.
